My Story
My name is Max, and I’m the owner and operator of Halo K Cattle. I’m a fourth-generation cattle raiser, having learned the trade firsthand from my father-in-law, Mike, who ranches near Olney. Mike learned the ins and outs of ranching from his father-in-law, Don Chandler, continuing a legacy built on hard work, stewardship, and respect for the land.
Together, our family has been ranching the same land for more than 115 years in Throckmorton and Young County. Today, I carry that legacy forward through Halo K Cattle, doing things the right way, hands-on, honest, and rooted in generations of Texas ranching tradition.
Beef is the most nutrient-dense protein available, and I’m proud to raise it responsibly. I believe food can be your best medicine or worst poison. The animals I raise are free of antibiotics, growth hormones, and intake no animal byproducts.
The protein provided by beef is the most nutrient-dense manner to feed an expanding population.
When I say my herd is All-Natural that means they are raised in an environment where everything they do and consume is free-choice. They live on native pastures from conception-to-consumption. I provide them a life where they are free of stress and are treated with dignity and respect at all times.
Before starting Halo K Cattle full time, I served 28 years in the U.S. Army, with the majority of my career in U.S. Army Special Forces (The Green Berets). I have commanded units in Long Range Surveillance, Airborne Infantry, and Special Operations units. I loved serving my Nation in uniform but feel like my current role as a “One Man Ranch” also lets me serve my country by providing people the most essential nutritional and natural foundation to feed their families.
I began Halo K Cattle in 2019 and have grown the operation into a direct-to-consumer business serving customers across multiple states. I raise Black Angus cattle and market my beef directly to families who want to know where their food comes from. Through Halo K Cattle, customers experience true ranch-to-table beef—raised in a natural environment, managed with low-stress handling practices, and free of antibiotics and growth hormones. My formula is simple. I believe Angus Genetics + Ethically Treated Happy Animals = More Tender and Flavorful Beef.
